Floats

We offer stainless steel float balls and tank floats of the highest quality, and can produce any type of floats to fit your needs.

Many liquid level floats shown in this catalog are in stock for immediate shipment in limited number. Ask about quantities required to tool for special sizes, configurations or material. Finish on all parts is as-drawn and welded, except where noted. Electro-polishing and annealing are some of the finishing options.

For custom sizes and quantities: contact us via telephone at 203.261.4009 or via our online contact form .

Features & Applications

APPLICATIONS

  • Float Switches
  • Float Valves
  • Liquid level Controls
  • Boiler Feed Water Controls
  • Sump Pumps
  • Steam Traps

CAUTION: Do not heat floats to elevated temperatures without considering the increases in internal pressure and other hazards involved.

TANKS

Most of the floats in this catalog may be made into a tank by drilling through the connector with the tap drill. If two connectors are desired, another one can easily be added on the opposite end. Please ask for a quote.

Special tanks will be quoted if quantities are sufficient and within the size range shown in this catalog.

Caution: Do not use floats as tanks without due consideration of the pressures and hazards involved. They are not rated pressure vessels.

MAGNETS

Many floats are available with internal magnets.

Please inquire regarding magnet strength, particularly for high temperature applications. We can refer you to our magnet supplier so you can determine if the magnet is suitable for your application.

Specials

If you don't see what you want, just ask for it.

Practically every item in our catalog started out as a "special". We have an attractive tooling policy and are prepared to consider your special requirements.

DESIGN VARIATIONS

Please note that fixturing indents may be omitted at any time at Seymour-Sheridan's discretion.

ADDED WEIGHT

Floats weighted with additional material are noted with a symbol by the weight listed in the tables. Materials used may be metal, sand or liquid. Weights are loose unless otherwise specified.

Custom Floats

Technical assistance is available to help design floats to your specific needs. Design information needed includes maximum diameter, maximum length, maximum specific gravity or weight and minimum collapse pressure. Additional information would be magnet dimensions and weight, center tube diameter and minimum float weight.

Quality standards

Seymour-Sheridan quality control includes:

  • 100% inspection for leaks during manufacturing
  • Periodic analysis of material
  • Continual dimensional inspection
  • Periodic testing to check collapsing pressure

Liquid Level Float Material Options

High quality Seymour-Sheridan floats are normally made from 300 Series stainless steel. Float Materials which can be inert gas arc welded may be specified, such as:

  • Monel
  • 20Cb-3
  • 17-7PH

Example Float Configurations

Float Part No. 56000-3

This 9" diameter is the largest we currently make. We can supply larger sizes if the quantity warrants manufacture.

Float Part No. 57700-2

This is one of several floats with an internally mounted magnet suitable for tripping a reed switch.

Float Part No. 51600-4

Two of these 2 1/4" floats screwed together increase buoyancy without increasing diameter. Each part has a collapse pressure of 900 psi and a specific gravity of 0.50. Liquid level floats with two internally threaded fittings may be assembled into multiple float configurations by using standard set screws to connect the floats.
